Craft – Younger/Older Children – PIPE CLEANER PALS

Materials needed:

- Assorted colored pipe cleaners (Hobby Lobby or Walmart sells bags of 100 count) – need 3 pipe cleaners per pipe cleaner pal
- Large unfinished wood beads with large holes
- Assorted colored plastic pony beads
- Plastic colored drinking straws cut into 1.5” pieces
- Markers
- Cardstock cut into 2”x4” rectangles
- Hole punch
- Print memory verse onto sheets of labels (we used Avery 5160)
Instructions:
- Give each child a piece of cardstock and a memory verse label.
- Stick memory verse onto cardstock, write child’s name on the back of cardstock, punch a hole into one end of cardstock.
- Let child choose 3 pipe cleaners, a wooden bead, 7 plastic beads, and 8 straw pieces.
- Lay 2 pipe cleaners down on table side by side to form the head, body, and legs.
- Thread top of two pipe cleaners through the wooden bead. This is the head of the pipe cleaner pal. Slide the wooden bead 1/3 down the pipe cleaners. Draw eyes, nose, mouth on wooden bead.
- Fold the 3rd pipe cleaner in half and wrap once around the pair of pipe cleaners just below the wooden bead. This forms the arms.
- Thread 3 plastic pony beads onto pair of pipe cleaners just below the arms. This is the torso.
- Thread one straw piece onto each of the 4 limbs, followed by one plastic bead (as elbows and knees), and one more straw after the bead.
- Insert Memory Verse card onto one of the arms.
- Coil the remaining pipe cleaner to form hands and feet. Style the hair by bending or curling.
- Let children make several pipe cleaner pals.
Session One
Verse Memorization Game
Older and Younger Children
Verse Catch
All you need for this game is a ball. Say one phrase of the verse. Have the children repeat the phrase with you. Stand in a circle and toss or bounce a ball back and forth as you say the words. You can have the whole group or individuals say the words with each throw.
