Acts – Lesson #1

Acts Lesson #1

Topic: The Sending God and the Traveling Believers
Memory Verse: Acts 1:4 And as He met together with them, He charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father…

Talking Points: Talk briefly through each point during Opening Time between songs.

  1. God is not a God who stays away from people, or waits for them to visit Him. Rather, throughout all of history, He comes and visits people. When the Lord Jesus lived on the earth, he did not stay at home alone. He traveled everywhere to meet people and to talk to them about God.
  2. Jesus asked his disciples to do the same thing He did. He asked them to go to all the nations on earth even the ones farthest away. He asked them to be His witnesses. He asked them to travel everywhere and to tell others about Him. The first believers in the early church did what Jesus asked them. They were travelers. They did not stay at home alone. They traveled together to many places and spoke the word of God to many people.
  3. They were ready to go and tell others, but Jesus asked his disciples to wait for the promise from the Father and to pray. Have you ever had to wait? Sometimes it is very hard to wait. Imagine how excited the believers were that Jesus was not dead, but alive. They wanted to run out and tell everyone! But Jesus told them to wait. To wait for the power that God had promised.
  4. That big meeting was a long meeting. It was a waiting and praying meeting. It lasted for ten days! It is always good to wait and to pray. Before we do anything new, we should stop, wait and pray.
