  • Memory Verse printed onto Avery 5160 or 8160 Mailing Labels*
  • Cardstock cut into 1 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles*
  • Clear, plastic drinking cups (12-16 oz), 1 per child
  • Clear, plastic dome lids to fit cup, 1 per child
  • Battery powered votive candle, 1 per child
  • Colored tissue paper, cut into 1”x1” squares, approx 30 per child*
  • Mod Podge, matte or high gloss
  • Small sponge craft brushes, 1 per every 2 children
  • Styrofoam 4-6″ dessert plates to hold Mod Podge
  • Yarn or Jute, cut to 6-8” lengths, 1 per child*
  • Colored pony beads
  • Paper towels
  • Hole punch
  • Pens, markers, or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Baby wipes to clean hands

Instructions:

  • Hand each child a rectangle piece of cardstock, a Memory Verse label, and a pen.
  • Have them affix the Memory Verse onto the cardstock. Write their name on the back.
  • Spread a paper towel on the table in front of each child to keep the tablecloth clean.
  • Give each child a cup, dome lid, and squares of tissue paper.
  • Carefully pour a palm-sized amount of Mod Podge onto each Styrofoam plate. Let 2 children share one plate of glue and one craft brush.
  • Stick a fist into the cup and hold it upside-down (this will keep hands clean). Dip the craft brush into the Mod Podge and spread a THIN layer of glue onto the outside of the cup. DO NOT SPREAD GLUE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE CUP.
  • Gently press one tissue square onto the glue, using the craft brush to pat down the tissue. DO NOT brush the tissue or it will tear. Repeat this process until the outside of the cup and dome lid are covered with tissue paper. Slightly overlapping the tissue paper is great!
  • Once the cup and lid are covered, pat a layer of Mod Podge over everything to seal it. Let it dry.
  • Give each child a piece of yarn or string and some pony beads.
  • Punch 2 holes symmetrically on either side of the dome lid. Tie one end of the yarn to the lid.
  • Punch a hole in one end of the Memory Verse tag. Have the children string some beads and the
  • Memory Verse tag onto the yarn for a handle. Secure the other end of the yarn to the other hole on the lid.
  • Give each child a battery-operated votive candle and help them turn it on. Place it inside the cup and secure the dome lid.
