Daniel – Craft (Lesson #4)

Lesson 4: Topic: A Good Result
Memory Verse: Daniel 3:28- Nebuchadnezzar responded and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who has sent His angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him and changed the king’s word and yielded their bodies that they might not serve nor worship any god except their own God.

Craft – Younger/Older Children – Dome Cup Lanterns

Materials needed:

  • Plastic drinking cups (we used 12oz cups)
  • Plastic dome or flat lids which fit over the drinking cups
  • Hole punch
  • Scissors
  • Black thin cardstock or tissue
  • Template for person – CLICK HERE FOR TEMPLATE
  • Yarn cut into 10” lengths
  • Assorted colored tissue paper to represent fire (orange, red, yellow)
  • Foam craft brushes (Hobby Lobby sells these in big bags)
  • Small paper or Styrofoam plates for glue
  • Modge Podge or School Glue
  • Assorted colored pony beads or colored drinking straws cut into 1-1½ “ lengths
  • Memory Verse printed on Avery 5160 labels
  • Cardstock cut to 2”x4” rectangles
  • Battery operated tealight candles (Amazon, Walmart, or Dollar Tree)
  • Paper towels or Wet-Ones to wipe hands clean

Instructions:

  • Cut or tear tissue paper into narrow strips resembling flames
  • Give each child a dome or flat lid and cup
  • Using a hole punch, make 2 holes on either side of the dome lid for handles. Make sure the holes are symmetric so the lantern will hang straight
  • Pour Modge Podge into small plate and hand each child a foam craft brush (If using School Glue, add a small amount of water to dilute)
  • Holding the cup by sticking one hand inside the cup, gently brush a thin layer of Modge Podge onto the outside of the cup
  • DO NOT GLUE BOTTOM OF CUP
  • Carefully lay one strip of tissue paper onto the glue on cup and gently smooth into place
  • Repeat gluing tissue paper until entire cup is covered, layering the paper
  • Turn attention to the dome or flat lid and glue tissue onto that, keeping holes for handles free of paper
  • Do not put lid onto cup before glue has dried
  • Trace 4 “people” onto black paper and cut them out with scissors (you may need to pre-cut these “people” for younger children)
  • Glue the 4 “people” around the cup
  • Using craft brush, very gently spread a thin layer of Modge Podge all over the people, flames, patting down loose edges – Modge Podge will dry clear
  • Allow everything to dry before handling
  • Give each child a Memory Verse label and piece of 2”x4” colored cardstock
  • Stick the Memory Verse label onto the cardstock, punch a hole on one end

Attach yarn through one of the holes punched, string pony beads or drinking straw beads and the Memory Verse card, tying off at the other end of the lid.

Session Four
Verse Memorization Game

Older and Younger Children

Spider Web Verse
One child holds the end of a ball of yarn and throws the ball to someone in a circle. They say the next word in the verse and throw the ball to someone else. This continues until the verse is complete and a spider web has been formed.
