Craft – Younger/Older Children – Set of 7 Memory Verse Bookmarks with Holder

PLEASE PRE-CUT CARDSTOCK PRIOR TO MEETING

Materials needed:

  • Memory Verses from all 6 lessons printed on mailing labels (total of 8 Memory Verses) – we used Avery 5160 Labels for all verses, except the longer verse from Lesson 5 we used Avery 5163 labels
  • Assorted colored cardstock (we used pads of cardstock from Hobby Lobby, 6”x6” and 3 3/8” x 3 3/8”)
  • Templates (see 19T6YO3.JPG)
  • No. 8 envelopes (we used Mead #8 from Dollar Tree)
  • Glue or Glue dots/double sided tape (to minimize mess)
  • Pencils
  • Scissors
  • Markers or crayons

Instructions:

  • Give each child an envelope and have them write their name on the side normally used for mailing addresses
  • Let children choose cardstock for their “roof” and “house”
  • On cardstock, trace the “roof” by raising the flap of the envelope. Cut to fit within the envelope with flap raised
  • Cut remaining cardstock to sizes indicated in the following photo
  • Assemble 7 bookmarks with Memory Verse labels and layering cardstock as seen in the first photo above
  • Fold “open window” cardstock and glue it to “blue sky” piece, glue the “window/sky” piece to the top of the “roof”
  • Glue the “roof” to the flap of the envelope
  • Glue the “house” to the base of the envelope
  • Glue the “house layer” to the “house” and stick larger Memory Verse label onto “house layer”
  • Place 7 bookmarks inside envelope

Sing it
Split into groups and have each group do the memory verse in a different music tempo. (See below.). Record the songs if you have the technology and play them back to hear themselves.

  • Sing Staccato (short – like pizzicato)
  • Sing Legato (long)
  • Sing Grandioso (with gusto!)
  • Sing Slow
  • Sing Fast
  • Sing Loud
  • Sing Soft
  • Sing with Syncopation
  • Sing with a Calypso beat                            
  • Sing with Harmony
  • Sing it Backwards
  • Sing Faster and Faster  
  • Have a Big Finish (Repeat and Slow Down)
  • Use Rhythm Sticks, Instruments, or noise making items
  • Body Percussion (Claps, Snaps, Stomp Feet, Mouth Pops, Clucks, Slapping Knees)
  • Sing with Syncopated clapping (or patty cake in teams of two)   
  • Ostinato (Repeating Repeats)
  • Leave Out Words
  • Hum the tune
  • Whistle the tune
  • Try Some Musical Experiments!
  • Pointing to the group to sing
  • Holding Out the First Note  until your Breath Runs Out!           
  • Singing Contests (speed, loudness, accuracy)
