Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 16:7c “…for man looks on the outward appearance, but Jehovah looks on the heart.”

Approved Crafts:

Younger Children – Heart Mosaic

Materials needed:

• Print memory verse(s) onto sheets of mailing labels (we used Avery 5160)
• Colored tissue paper, cut or torn into 1”x1” squares
• Heart template pre-printed onto 8”x10” cardstock – *Click here to Print Template*
• School glue
• Paper towels
• Small sponge craft brushes, 1 per every 2 children (Hobby Lobby, Amazon in bulk)
• Markers or Crayons or Pencils

Instructions:
• Give each child a sheet of cardstock and a marker or crayon.
• Ask the children to write their names on the back of the cardstock.
• With a craft brush, spread a very thin amount of glue onto the cardstock, within the area of the heart.
• Press various pieces of colored tissue paper onto the glued portion of the paper, leaving the area around the heart plain white. Children can crumple up the tissue paper with the eraser end of a pencil or flat end of a crayon, and then glue the flat part of the tissue paper to the heart for a 3-dimensional look.
• Give each child a memory verse label and have them stick it onto their cardstock.

Older Children –Decoupage Coasters

**Due to drying time needed, please begin this craft as soon as you’re finished with the
Welcoming Activity**

Materials needed:

• Print memory verse(s) onto sheets of mailing labels (we used Avery 5160)
• Colored tissue paper, cut or torn into 1”x1” squares or 1”x2” rectangles
• 4 ¼” x 4 ¼” ceramic tiles (Home Depot sells a case of 100 tiles for $16. Please check for breakage)
• Colored paper or cardstock cut into 1.5”x3”
• Small self-stick adhesive felt pads (like those for furniture)
• Scissors
• Pencil or Marker
• Mod Podge (glossy finish)
• Craft sponge brush (Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or Amazon), 1 brush shared by 2 children
• Small paper plate or bowl
• Paper towels or baby wipes to clean hands
Instructions:
• Give each child a Memory Verse label and cardstock. Stick the memory verse onto cardstock.
• Give each child a ceramic tile and 4 felt adhesives. Stick a felt piece on each of the 4 corners on the
bottom side of tile to protect furniture. Write their name on the bottom of the tile.
• Choose strips of colored tissue paper.
• Pour a palm sized amount of Mod Podge onto a small plate, having 2-3 children share a plate. Using a
clean sponge brush, spread a THIN layer of Mod Podge onto the ceramic tile.
• Carefully place tissue paper onto tile, layering colors.
• Using the sponge brush, start from the middle of the tile and gently tap-tap-tap to smooth out the tissue
so that it lays flat on the tile, without wrinkles or bubbles. Gently tapping the tissue will prevent it from
shifting or tearing.
• Spread a thin layer of Mod Podge on the back of the memory verse and stick it onto the tile, on top of
the tissue paper.
• Seal everything together by gently brushing/tapping a THIN layer of Mod Podge over the top of the tile,
including the Memory Verse, and along the edges of the tile to prevent paper from curling up.
• Once dry, Mod Podge gives a clear, glossy finish.
