David – Craft (Lesson #4)

David – Activities & Crafts (Lesson #4)

Memory Verse:  I Sam. 20: 42b “May Jehovah be between me and you and between my seed and your seed forever”

Approved Crafts:

Craft (Younger & Older Children):  Pipe Cleaner Pals

**It is helpful for serving saints to practice making this craft prior to the conference session.**

Materials needed:

  • Print memory verse onto sheets of mailing labels (we used Avery 5160)
  • Colored cardstock cut into 1.5” x 3”
  • Unfinished wooden beads (we ordered from Amazon, 25mm 300 pcs for $21.99), at least 1 per child
  • Assorted colored pipe cleaners (Amazon, Hobby Lobby sells in bulk), at least 3 per child
  • Assorted pony beads with large holes
  • Assorted colored plastic drinking straws, cut into approx. 1.5” lengths
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch
  • Markers

Instructions:

  • Give each child a Memory Verse label and colored cardstock. Stick the label onto the cardstock, allowing room on one side for a hole to be punched.
  • Write their names on the other side of the cardstock.
  • Punch a hole at one end of the cardstock.
  • Give each child 3 pipe cleaners and assemble the body, using the picture below as a guide.

  • Make a letter X with two of the pipe cleaners.
  • Wrap the 3rd pipe cleaner once around the X you just made, forming a letter V. Now you have 4 ends of pipe cleaners at the top. These are the 2 arms and hair of the Pipe Cleaner Pal.
  • Slip 3 Pony beads over ALL 4 pipe cleaner ends (at the top of your figure), stopping before the end of the letter V. This is the torso.
  • Slip a wooden bead over just the topmost 2 pipe cleaner ends (at the top of your figure) and slide it down to the Pony beads. This is the head. Now you should have 2 arms, 2 legs, a head, torso, and some crazy hair sticking straight up out of the wooden bead.
  • Give each child 8 pieces of pre-cut drinking straws. This will form the upper and forearms, and thighs and lower legs, allow a pony bead in between the straws as elbows and knees.
  • Curl up the ends of the arms and legs to form hands and feet. This keeps the straws from falling off.
  • Twist up the hair to make silly hairdos.
  • Draw a simple face on the wooden bead with a marker. Be careful not to let the marker bleed.
  • Attach the Memory Verse onto the Pal with a length of yarn.
