Lesson # 6 – Acts

Acts Lesson #6

Topic: The Answering God and the Praying Believers
Memory Verse: Acts 16:25 And about midnight Paul and Silas, while praying, sang hymns of praise to God; and the prisoners were listening to them.

Let the children pick a song from a previous meeting, if you are finished singing the assigned songs.

Talking Points:

  1. Our God is a God who hears His people. He hears us when we pray. He loves to answer when His people pray. The first believers were always praying. They prayed about everything they did. They prayed together about what they should do. They prayed for people. God answered them. The early believers prayed in all kinds of situations. One time, Peter was in a prison that was heavily guarded. Some believers met together at a sister’s house and prayed
for him. While they were praying, an angel came and released Peter. He went straight to the house where the brothers and sisters were praying and knocked at the door. At first they didn’t believe it! God answered their prayer!
  2. Another time Paul and Silas were also in prison for speaking the good news of Jesus. At midnight, instead of complaining about their difficulties, they prayed. Eventually, they even praised the Lord and sang songs. The other prisoners heard them. Suddenly, there was an earthquake and the doors of the jail came open. Instead of running away, Paul and Silas stayed to make sure the jailer who was in charge of the jail was alright. They spoke the word of God to
the jailer, and he and his whole family became believers.
  3. Paul traveled to many different cities. Sometimes, people would attack him and throw him out of the city. But he didn’t give up. He just got up and went to the next city to speak about the Lord to them. Several times the ship he was on went through a storm. Paul spoke up and encouraged everyone that God would keep them from harm. He made many friends and many believed in the Lord. He traveled into more cities and spoke to men, women and even kings
    about the Lord.
  4. The journeys and traveling of Paul and the other believers brought the word of God to people who might not have had the opportunity to hear it otherwise. Paul even went to Greece and spoke to a city of people who worshiped idols and knew nothing about God.
  5. Traveling and visiting people required the first believers to care for God first and for others, not just for themselves. As they were going, God was with them. Actually God was traveling and reaching people by their going out.
